My Experience Programming at S5 Solutions

I joined the small Electrical Engineering and Software
Engineering firm S5 Solutions in Mukilteo, Washington in
2015. The company specializes in using the graphical
programming tool "LabView" from National Instruments.
Since all my previous experience was in using textual
programming language tools, I faced a challange in learning
this new programming environment. After completing a few
practice assignments, I used my new LabView skills to
create a demonstration program for the Audio Guide
cellphone system we were making for Seattle's EMP
(Experience Music Project) museum. Next, I helped build
that Audio Guide using the JavaScript programming
language. We used our JavaScript skills to build some
web-based applications for some of our other clients.

Craig Bedward - S5 Solutions President
Craig Bedward - S5 Solutions President

Our President, Craig Bedward, enjoyed playing board
games, and he invented two games that we successfully built
and marketed. The first was "Election: The Game", a fun
game with witty critiques of typical political ploys. About
a year later, he decided to create the "LIPLESS!" game
since he liked the popular video of people trying to speak
with dental mouth guards in their mouths. He wanted to
buy the game to play it too, but he was surprised that it was
not being sold. He knew how to build and market games
from our "Election: The Game" experience, so he created
the game himself and marketed it very successfully, selling
it primarily on Amazon. We frequently spent our evenings
and weekends assembling and shipping out tens of
thousands of the games to purchasers. With the huge
success of "LIPLESS!", we decided to make a cellphone
application of the game too. We used JavaScript to build
the app, and you can see some screen captures of it in
action above. It works correctly and was available for free
for Android and iPhone cellphones, but it no longer is
listed for iPhones. Since it was free, it was not financially
successful.
